Okay, I didn't actually have my surgery yesterday. I did everything I was supposed to do: I arrived at the hospital at 7:00 a.m., checked in, paid my "deposit" (taking note of the fact that I was the only patient checking in who was required to do this), and went into the surgery area to prepare for surgery. I put on my "gown" and a sexy lil' hairnet, and then a nurse came into my room and took my blood pressure and temperature. "Hmm, you're running a little fever," she said (100 degrees). "Let's hook you up to the IV and see if we can cool you down a little bit." So there I sat, for the next hour and a half, praying that my temperature would go down. But, as luck would have it, when the nurse returned to take my temperature again, it had gone the wrong direction. It was now 102.
Dammit.
The doctors did a strep culture (negative) and tested my urine for an infection (also negative...and probably TMI, sorry), but they could not figure out what was causing my fever. So, they sent me home with antibiotics and rescheduled for next Wednesday. Hopefully, by then, my unexplained fever will have gone away.
Talk about bad luck.
Oh, and thanks to everyone who sent me emails or text messages to let me know you were thinking about me. I'll keep those in mind next week.
